Welcome to REM, Jace Boechler's portfolio and game development blog.
04/01/2012 - PILOT EPISODE
This being my first major post, I would like to briefly establish the goals of this blog, somewhat for the three regular visitors out there but more so I can clarify the point of this to myself.First and foremost, topics will generally revolve around the development of my independent game projects, as of right now I have one that I have been working on since 2008, maybe earlier. Despite how long I've been working on it, I do not feel it is far along enough for a formal announcement, so until it reaches that point, I intend to talk about the various trials and tribulations of it's development, minus contextual information such as story, characters, main mechanics and so on.
I also intend to provide the various methods I have found when solving problems for my game. I really like indie devs and the games they make, so if anything I have learned may help someone else, I would be delighted and enthusiastic to share it. Likewise, I may provide information, maybe tutorials even, about the tools I am using.
Of course, this mission statement will not completely limit what will be posted here. As I am an artists/designer/whatever before I am a coder, I'll probably talk about art every now and then. Additionally, I really value communication/collaboration, so I would be happy to direct posts around any comments or questions you may have.
Being completely honest, I know I will never give up on this project but I also know that it has taken so long partially because I haven't pushed myself enough to work on it (not to mention school, that's pretty distracting too). So, in the end, the real reason I've put this blog on the site is to make myself work on my game more, as having an audience (even if it is three people) will motivate me to keep the momentum going.
I look forward to the eventual completion of this project and the future discussions we may have , although I'm not expecting to many ;D . Thanks for reading!
